Pregnancy induced hypertension studies

We are currently recruiting participants for the ongoing study of pre-eclampsia and its association with infectious diseases.

Title:

A comparative study of viruses, bacteria and fungi present in blood, urine, amniotic fluid and placental tissues of women with pre-eclampsia and normal pregnant women in Sri Lanka.

Investigators:
Ms.Ranmalee Amarasekara

Prof.Rohan W. Jayasekara

Dr.Vajira H.W.Dissanayake

Prof.Hemantha Senanayake

Objective:

To detect and compare virus, bacterial and fungal pathogens present in blood, urine, amniotic fluid and placental tissues of women with pre-eclampsia and a control group of women who had medically uncomplicated normal pregnancies using molecular genetic techniques.

Eligibility for recruitment:

Pregnant women with pre-eclampsia:  Pregnant women with de novo hypertension (systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure ≥ 90 mmHg) subsequent to 20 weeks of gestation in an earlier normotensive pregnant woman with proteinuria ≥ 300 mg protein /day on a 24 hour urine collection at 6 h apart as cases.

Normal pregnant women: pregnant women with uncomplicated pregnancies undergoing caesarian section deliveries.
