The Human Genetics Unit, established in 1983, is one of the oldest Genetics Centres in the Asian Region. The Unit was founded by its founding Director, Prof. Rohan W Jayasekara, who continues in that capacity to date. The HGU serves as the National Referal Centre for Human Genetics in Sri Lanka setting standards for Human Genetics in the Country.

The HGU is located in the Faculty of Medicine, in Colombo 8, in the heart of Colombo and can be easily accessed via public transport [Punchi Borella stop on the Maradana-Borella road; and Carey College stop on the Town Hall-Punchi Borella road]. If you are coming by car parking is available on the Norris canal road for visitors. Visitor vehicles will not be allowed in to the Faculty premises.
 
 
All genetic testing and genetic consultations are by appointment only. Please make an appointment before you come to the HGU by emailing office@hgucolombo.org or calling 011 2689 545.
